Weather damage

Well, that was nowhere near as bad as we might have expected. We just need to brace ourselves  now for the following storm. Mr L has few interests in his life but one major one is his weather station and the software that he develops for displaying the station’s data. Imagine his feelings when he …

Creeping backwards

The days are definitely lengthening and the sun will soon be rising to the left of that byre. I can’t wait until the sun gets up before I do – this way around seems all wrong to my system… Quite still this morning and much of our swampland is turning more to mud than water. …

Happy New Me

Today’s Blip is a selfie. Don’t linger, move on. I note that I didn’t brush my hair, tidy my clothes or clean the cloakroom mirror… (sigh) This is the second of a sequence of monthly images that I am taking to record my progress on the 5:2 regime. Sorry to inflict it here and I …

Moving on

Yesterday was the first day of my UFO-busting month. Photographs failed to emerge because, well, yesterday was pretty much a non-event. A quiet day, one might say.  I did at least identify a project that I felt I could work on and make progress. My surprise was that it was not knitting, but Tunisian Crochet.  …

Happy New Year

Oh, no – it’s a Backblip! For once we were up late last night. Normally we have our anniversary dinner and slope off to bed long before the bells. This morning we were still by the fireside with our bottle of port at 3am – so I never managed to upload my Blip before midnight. …

Prep

I spent a large part of today in the kitchen, preparing for tomorrow’s Wedding Anniversary dinner. * Onion bread – for turning into Melba Toast tomorrow * Chicken Liver Pate * Sauce Espagnole – the base sauce for the Black Cherry Sauce to go  with our duck The Duckling turned into A Saga. The promised …

And the inside looks like

I’m thinking that these thrummed socks could do double duty – as duster mitts. Sock no 2 is now in progress. Socks no 1 was much admired at Spinning Group. Great fun to watch people’s faces as they plunge their hand inside the sock 🙂

Making Progress

My thrum-making technique is improving and my thrums are less bulky, more airy now. Also the sock is looking more… sock-like than previously. I’m running out of roving for the thrums due entirely to being too heavy-handed initially. I expect Mr L will receive one bulky slipper sock and one less rounded. The next pair …

Thrumming awful

Thrummed sock in progress. Progress stalled due to my intense hatred of the Short Row Heel. All the worse this time because of the added complexity and sheer awkwardness of the thrums. Frankly, I only pointed a camera at it to get a break from the knitting. Not so much a sock as a Trial …

I always did prefer Boxing Day Leftovers

It’s hard to beat a good sausage pie…  I served this one up with bubble and squeak and  reheated red cabbage. Washed down with a cider, it worked well indeed. It’s high time that I snapped something other than food. It’s weird the way that food becomes an obsession once the word “diet” is bandied …
