A Little Bit of Froth and nonsense

I cast this project on last night when I came to the end of the squares for my Log Lace shawl. I could have picked up the Pi blanket of course but SpinningGill is knitting this fichu and every time that I see the pattern I think how sweet it is…

Gill is knitting hers in her own handspun but I did hear her say that she might like to do another one in laceweight. I recalled my stash of this yarn…

…and thought I would gift her some to knit the fichu with.

It only seemed right to test knit it first 🙂

I’m doing mine in a shade (not pictured here) that I am finding difficult to describe. It’s not cream – it’s too orange for that. It’s certainly not vanilla or ice cream because it isn’t yellow enough, but it’s not ecru or string because there is too much colour in it, and it certainly isn’t gold or champagne. There’s too much pink in it to name it barley… it is, I have concluded, best described as an apricot fool – one with a very high proportion of cream to fruit. There, now you should be able to picture it. Good enough to eat.

The fichu was cast on at 8:30pm last night. The first front extension was knitted by bed time and the second one was started this morning while my cakes were baking. I finished that at spinning today and also managed to do the crochet cast-off (on a rather small hook, but it seems O.K.) I am now ready to pick up the stitches for the border.

S lent me a circular needle of the right size to complete the shawl today. This leaves me in a quandary because, you might have guessed, it is also the right size to complete the Log Lace shawl.

On balance, I think that I shall finish the fichu (ooh, alliteration) – because this yarn is beautiful to handle and I am still loathing the Kureyon sock, which makes my hands very sore indeed. I think that the fichu will punctuate my projects very well indeed. I find that such an enjoyable small project is just what I need to lift my spirits.
