A Bigger, Redder, Butternuttier FO

A themed RAK on Ravelry’s UK RAK group gave me an opportunity to make two test drives in one pass. I wanted to test out some chunky yarn that I had from eBay and I also wanted to see what an unblocked chunky Butternut Scarf would emerge like. The theme was “red,” the recipient enjoys dark reds, the yarn that I had was a rich deep dark red – it had to be done!

A nice quick knit. I knitted this straight from the cone. Not sure I would do that again as I found the yarn harsh on my hands and the smell of the oil bothered me a great deal. I’ll probably skein and wash the yarn before knitting anything else with it.

As anticipated, the texture works well at this gauge. It would look even better at the gauge I hope to do it in one day – in the thickest, softest, loftiest luxury yarn I can find! It will be camel or beige or off-white… which should be easier to photograph than this deep, rich glowing red – nothing like the colour of that close up shot!

The yarn  is “O.K” – soft enough once washed, and it didn’t shrink at all – the scarf was 65″ before and after washing. It did run colour though – copiously. But, for the price? I’d buy it again for non-special projects – such as rugs and blankets.

RAK received, so project no longer under wraps.
