Creativity and Constraint

"Is knitting a creative activity? It is certainly a productive one - there is an output from the process. The outputs may vary in quality, for sure (well, mine do anyway) but is there a scale for creativity as well as for quality? ... ...I wish to be entirely free in my design choices also. I may be creative in only a very small way but I do relish that piece of creativity. I get a real buzz from seeing the realisation of my personal vision and knowing that I was absolutely correct in my choices..." I ponder on the question of whether knitwear designers should control the outcomes of projects that they have designed - and whether the paid designer's creativity is of greater value than that of the humble knitter.

Situation Normal

A dark wet windswept day today. All energy is being sapped and nothing much is happening at all... especially in the kitchen, where plans for today have stalled. Where are all the good films when you need them?

That’s lucky

Prescience

I know the theory of lifelines, but rarely effect the practice. Sometimes I put one in for the first pattern or two, but soon get fed up and lapse. I've never actually had the need of one, so it has been easy to be lax about it... ...I had to rip out eleven rows of cobweb weight lace....

Mr Plumbum’s Desk Mitts

I finally mustered sufficient backbone to sew in the ends on these mitts. They were finished this evening and have already been deployed. Appropriate appreciation was shown.

Emergency Measures are in place. Any warm place is now subject to sharing. (Photogallery post)
