Left-footed, open-handed

The first Twisted sock is completed and I have taken some spectacularly poor photographs of it in today’s dismal light.

One down

In fact, I completed this sock twice. I had it grafted when I realised that a stitch had dropped from the toe and then run all the way down the shaping. This was my fault, for trying to turn it inside out before grafting so that I wouldn’t have to deal with the purl stitches. I had to unpick the grafting and then rip back to the row before the toe shaping. It was touch and go but I did actually steel myself and get the job done.

It is difficult to believe that such a simple-looking sock ate up almost my entire week. Twisted is far slower to knit than I had imagined. I want a rest now before doing the second one. My new needle came yesterday – I’ll put some time in on the Tribute sock before girding my loins to the right foot of  Twisted. I will do it though. I will not allow Second Sock Syndrome to get the better of me, no matter how many UFOs are clamouring for my attention. It makes no sense to add to their noise! And Mr L wants these socks in his suitcase before the end of April…

Little sockage today though, I think. There is baking on the horizon. Poor Mr L spent a lot of time outside in the cold yesterday in trying to fix the car. I promised him a treat and will be making a Bakewell Pudding for our tea. Between now and then I shall be busy in my workroom. I need to tidy up a little and then get to work.

There’s a secret swap going on in the Ravelry group UK Random Acts of Kindness – and I have signed up to it because it has been a long time since I participated in a swap. These are the swap rules:

Just to remind you this is a secret swap, you need to send

  • Handmade item
  • Yarn
  • Notion or needles
  • A non yarny something which works with their interest / likes. (say no more than a £5 max ~ please say if too much) by 21st June 2010

Plenty of time, but I would like to clear this as quickly as possible or I am bound to forget all about it and then fall behind – and there are further stages to this swap event (watch this space.) I have ideas for today that include something as the handmade item but also a handmade element to the notions part. There is also consideration to be given to whether or not to spin the yarn component…
