Home comforts

Don’t forget that all this week we have a small giveaway in operation – leave a comment on this post to be in with a chance.

Today is Day 5 of Knit/Crochet Blog week and today’s prompt is:

Location, Location, Location

knitcroblo5

Where do you like to indulge in your craft? Is your favourite arm chair your little knitting cubby area, or do you prefer to ‘knit in public’? Do you like to crochet in the great outdoors, perhaps, or knit in the bath, or at the pub?

I prefer to be at home rather than being anywhere else and so I naturally do the majority of my knitting at home.  Occasionally I knit elsewhere — at craft club or, contradictorily, at spinning group and I keep special projects for knitting on the ferry journey to town (I am not often seen on the ferry without my knitting needles!)

At home, my preferred location would be on the sofa in the sitting room, by the fire — ideally with a glass or mug within reach and some soothing music on the stereo.  Unfortunately, the sitting room rarely sports that happy combination of light and warmth necessary to knit effectively… in practice, my knitting location is normally in the office.

Mr L works full-time at home and has a dedicated office space, which I share with him.  There is a large amount of computer equipment in there and it generates a great deal of waste heat.  The office is the warmest room in the house without our having to put any additional energy input into it.  Add to that the fact that my dear husband would rather have my company than be without it and you have the general social and economical picture… me, in front of my computer, knitting in hand, and either the pattern on the screen or some good viewing on the BBC iPlayer — this dependent on the complexity of the knitting in hand.

From time to time, the dogs, the cats, my knitting and I are ejected from the office space while a telephone conference is conducted.  On those occasions, you are most likely to find me knitting in my craft room or in the kitchen, while the dinner cooks.

I also frequently knit in bed for the hour so before sleep, with the radio on and a glass of Talisker at hand.

It is not a bad way to live, is it?

It has been a busy day, not much time for anything. We walked the dog this morning but I took no photographs until I decided to take a few potshots in the village on our way back.

Van Nessa : Her Leak

Van Nessa : Her Leak

Home from Melle, we set about cleaning the van in preparation for going out again. At the moment we are hoping to go out for at least one night every week in continuing efforts to break the cats in (or down!) Mr Snail was cleaning the bathroom. Although we haven’t used the shower we had… Continue reading Van Nessa : Her Leak
