FO: Mere

This is my first test knit for Designs by Romi. The shawl pattern is named Merope and is one of a forthcoming set of  seven small shawls, all named after the Pleiades. My project is named Mere: Merope married a mere mortal (Sisyphus) and the yarn colour reminded me of the deep cold waters of the Lakeland meres.

Merope is a fast and easy knit and is good fun to work on; knitted from the point upwards and in one piece, with a softly scalloped edging that requires no binding off  stitches. It comes in two flavours, garter stitch (finished with reverse stocking stitch icord) and stocking stitch with a simple knitted-on edging. In the pattern as written the garter version is the smaller of the two (at four repeats) and the stocking stitch is the larger (five repeats.) I did six repeats and find myself wishing that I had added a seventh.

I used no markers and no lifelines.

The yarn is beautiful! Lovely to work with and has a great hand to it once washed and blocked. It drapes beautifully and is soft, sleek and warm. I have about 300 yards left and hope that I can get more.

There are a couple of errors in this shawl that I would like to correct and I may re-knit it one day. If I do, I’ll use up the yarn and make the triangle larger.
