Double Displacement

I have a job interview on Tuesday. At this interview I have to give a presentation. I have known about this for a while. Am I preparing? Well, no – I am displacing.

And what form does this displacement take? Well, I knitted a mitt for Mr L. The rationale being that he really needs mitts and that he keeps asking for them so, naturally I had to do that first. Plenty of time left in which to prepare…

The only thing is, I loathed knitting the damn mitt so much that I have put off doing the second one. Instead I worked up a line of reasoning that said my hands were sore and cramped and I needed to do something bulkier for a while.

So… meet the Displacement Mitts (still a few ends to tidy up)

Of course, all the time that I was knitting these, I was panicking because I knew I should be Doing More Important Things.

So how did I face my panic?

Why, with a hat, of course! The Blind Panic Hat… or maybe the Double Displacement Hat

And having finished that, I sit at my machine, I gird my loins, I open up my word processor – and then I start taking snapshots of knitting and new stash and go into Excessive Blog mode instead of Interview Preparation.

Where will it all end? How many hats does a girl need – exactly?

and not only do I have the Interview prep hanging over me, but I now also have the original displacement activity glowering at me as well.

  1. Love the mitts – and the hat is luscious! – absolutely edible. Dare I ask if you’ll be selling it at the Christmas Fair?

  2. Holy cow, I didn’t know there was a word for what I do so often…it’s called displacement? At least you have a product at the end of your displacement…some people read blogs. I think half of my knitting is displacement knitting, come to think of it.
