Your thrills and my thrills

Taking a look at the blog stats just now I was amazed to see how much activity there has been on a previous Thursday Thrill post…. the one about The Smell. I can only imagine that there are reams of folk out there who are troubled by their own strange household odours, and in search of a resolution. Well, whatever floats your boat!

And what floats my boat this week is World of Wool.

I was going to begin this post “Spinning Gill and I were inspired recently…” then I realised that it was not quite so recently, in fact more like “some time ago” … but I digress.  Do you recall The Yarn Harlot’s mawata mittens, knit straight from the hanky without spinning? You might even recall a previous comment that we wanted to have a go ourselves. Well, on Saturday evening we finally got around to ordering some hankies.

The best deal that we  found was on eBay and a fiver for 100g of hankies – this is way cheaper than any other source that I could find. We want to limit expenditure in case our dyeing and/or knitting efforts prove futile/destructive and a fiver between us seems reasonable for a first play. But I digress once more!

The eBay seller is WOW World of Wool. While we were getting the hankies, we explored their other items…. and fell prey to some  undyed lace knitting yarn, and some Wensleydale and Jacob top. The combined price of 700g of fibre goodies was just £24.20 but the postage was significant at over £8. I asked WOW if they could adjust the postage on a combined invoice and bless me, they did! They got the p&p (1st Class Royal Mail) down to £3.50.

Now, if I was impressed with their eBay service, I was much more impressed when I decided to dig a little deeper. I checked out their “About Us” page and I liked what I saw. I went in pursuit of a web site… and lost most of yesterday afternoon exploring the products and information there. It really returned my zest for spinning, I can tell you.

I’m thrilled to have found a really good value source of fibre goods, from an old-fashioned family business. I cannot tell you with how much impatience I am awaiting the arrival of my postie this morning! Not to mention how tightly I am having to control my urge to spend… when I see new (to me)  fibres for spinning and felting.  I’d love to try some pure bamboo, for instance – and I am eager to compare their Rainbow Blend with Silk tops with Ashford’s Merino/Silk Sliver.

‘scuse me – dogs are barking. I think postie is here!

EDIT: – yep – the parcel is here. I paid for it on the 22nd, they posted it the same day. 1st Class mail takes an extra day to get here, not WOW’s fault it didn’t arrive until now.

Parcel contents look fine to me. I particularly like the superwashed merino laceweight 2/14.5NM yarn at £4.75 per 100g (715m). In fact, I like so much that I just purchased a new lace knitting book!

If you want further bargains their Botany Lap Waste bags are fantastic value. 500g is £9, and you don’t know what you’ll get so it’s a bit of an adventure!

Yes, they hadn’t completely escaped my attention…. 🙂

Have you been to their premises?

There are times when I miss living in Yorkshire – and this is one of them (and Texere’s rag rug workshop)
