Regular readers will recall recent interest in knitting a Swirl jacket. I ordered the book via an Amazon Marketplace Seller as Amazon UK did not have it in stock.

I waited. I’m quite a patient person.

I waited. I twitched. I admired yarn. I became impatient.

February 10th

I followed up to enquire when exactly they would be dispatching

February 11th (23 hours to reply)

[su_pullquote]Thank you for your email to World of Books.

We’re sorry for the confusion, I have checked our system and you should not have received a dispatch confirmation from the Marketplace.

We can confirm that your order was cancelled because of a quality control issue. We are very sorry about this, but you should have received a full refund and confirmation by now.

  • What confusion? I ordered goods. I am expecting goods. I am in no way confused.
  • I didn’t receive a dispatch confirmation, that’s why I was writing to enquire when it would be dispatched
  • What are you confirming, exactly, as this is the first that I have heard from you!
  • You cannot refund what I have not yet paid and, again, confirmation of what?

[su_pullquote]We’re writing to inform you that your order  from World of Books Ltd has been cancelled.

If you’re still interested in this item, please search for it again on Amazon.co.uk.[/su_pullquote]

  • Well, clearly I am still interested in it or I would not be enquiring about when I might expect my book to arrive
  • Yebbut, you have not fulfilled my order and Amazon do not stock the book so what’s the point in searching?
  • Ah, I see, the point in searching is to see that you are STILL listing the book. How silly of me not to be aware that I have to reorder it because you took a cancellation action without actually informing me.
  • As you are still listing the item, I assume that your mysterious QC issue has been resolved, Again, without informing me. Why can you not just fulfil the bloody order?
  • No, sorry, I’m not going to reorder.  I’m buying a used copy elsewhere. Hopefully a seller with better systems, properly trained staff and an effective communications policy.

One day, I may get to make a Swirl. One day. Not soon.

Hi Beth, I found your post whilst looking for copy of Knit Swirl! myself and having exactly the same experience with World of Books via Amazon. You made me laugh because you’ve written down my thoughts exactly! I’m currently hoping for a copy of the book from” Little Houndales Knits” who say the can order one for me. I hope you get to knit your Swirl one day. Best wishes, Nicola

Hi, Nicola. As it happens my copy arrived this morning! I found a used copy with Amazon seller browns-books, who were fast and efficient and I received an all-but pristine copy for just £14.99. I am delighted.

I enjoy reading your comments, please pass the time of day
