Daily Prompt: The Transporter
Tell us about a sensation — a taste, a smell, a piece of music — that transports you back to childhood.
The chimes of Watch With Mother… followed by the gentle piano introduction to The Woodentops every Friday lunchtime. ‘Nuff said.
… and the very biggest Spotty dog you ever did see.
I liked The Woodentops because it had twins in it, the only twins that I knew of apart from me and my sister. It’s a bit worrying now to think that a boy and girl pair were supposedly identical! I guess that the puppet maker must have left the interesting bits out…
How about the tune for Rag, Tag and Bobtail? (Thursdays)
I was entranced weekly by the magical world of Rag, Tag and Bobtail – and I loved the baby bunnies.
All these years on, those simple chimes still have the power to transport me back to that little sitting room in our 2-up-2-down in Sheffield and the coccoon-like world of Watch With Mother.

I think it got to be music for me! ABBA or Queen always send me back! X
It is incredible some of the responses to this prompt…most have said it is music. Thank you for sharing and for the ping back.

I remember Watch with Mother but we were the Andy Pandy Generation just a bit later than The Woodentops I think.
We had Andy Pandy too (Tuesdays, wasn’t it?) and Bill and Ben and Picture Book. That’s the full week, I think.
Your memory is better than mine. I have no idea who was on what day. I watched Bill and Ben too but don’t recall Picture Book.
Picture Book may have gone by your time. Even when I was small, it was very old-fashioned. I didn’t like Mondays much, apart from Muffin the Mule.
The last time I was at the National Media museum in Bratfud there was an exhibition on with an area to sit and watch an oversized TV and feel small again. Watch With Mother on the screen and the real /actual/ Andy Pandy and Ted in a glass case. It was an awesome moment for me. LOL
HaHa…I must pop over and see if they still have that bit.
There was also a red Dalek. I turned a corner and there it was. I was surprised at the real anxiety that I felt. Cultural Icon.
Daleks were very very scary.
I was more into Bill and Ben the Flowerpot men with Little Weed – they carried me through my infant school.
schlobbalop!
Oh the memories this brought back, and I know exactly what you mean about the music, my favourite was Pogles wood.
