Kleio

It seems apt that when I woke this morning I found an email alert awaiting me – the first of Romi’s Muse shawls is ready for downloading and testing.

Now I must decide whether I am in on this one, or not. I have the yarn selected and can envision the finished Muse – but I know in my heart that my time could be more profitably spent.

There will be other Muses for me to help with.

In Greek mythology, Clio (play /ˈklaɪ.oÊŠ/; Greek: Κλειώ) or Kleio, is the muse of history. Like all the muses, she is a daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne. She had one son, Hyacinth, with one of several kings, in various myths – with Pierus, King of Macedon, or with king Oebalus of Sparta, or with king Amyclas, progenitor of the people of Amyclae, dwellers about Sparta. Some sources say she was also the mother of Hymenaios.

She is often represented with a parchment scroll or a set of tablets and is also known as the Proclaimer. The name is from the root κλέω/κλείω, meaning “recount” or “make famous”.

‘Clio’ represents history in some coined words: cliometrics, cliodynamics.

Have you seen Kleio? (Ravelry / Romi’s blog) I would be making her  in green.

Go on. Advise me. Hard slog on the UFO pile… or a 2 skein pretty thing that I have absolutely no need for, just a desire to help get her out there in the wild asap. What would you do?

Today I am completing the test knit cuff that I began last night. I’m making it in Nyoni, which is a yarn I absolutely love to work with. It is my treat to myself after struggling for the last few days with splitty DK yarn on small needles. There is only enough for the one cuff, though!

There’s a whole other skin of Nyoni if I like how the cuff turns out… BUT it is a scarce resource – it looks like Fleece Artist have ceased producing this one.

While we are speaking of Muses and Shawls – have you seen Romi’s Lisianthus? How I wish I had the time!
