Then there’s the small matter of my discovering Kingscraig Fabrics on eBay.
First I tried the chunky weight. I’m thinking that this stuff is cheap enough for the forthcoming Girasole blanket at only £13 or so a cone.
The yarn is oiled and quite hard on the hands to knit with, but it washes up nicely – it’s 100% lambswool.
The colour did run considerably – but you get what you pay for, right?
Happy enough with that purchase, I sent for some aran weight – for comparison purposes. This too is lambswool.
I chose Sea Green, which is a flecked colour (that was a surprise) and I intend to make my Rivulet cardi from this. I’m hoping that there are 1,800 yards on this cone (also £13 ish) and that I’ll get the whole garment out of it. I need… 1,260.
Most likely I shall skein and wash this before I knit my Rivulet. This is mainly because I find the smell of the oil gets up my nose a bit and makes me sniffle.
Finally, I succumbed again today and have some 4ply lambswool/silk coming. Well – I should do thorough testing before recomemnding a vendor, do you not think?
If you want to give them a whirl – they are here http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Kingcraig-Fabrics Postage charges are extremely fair. Kingscraig Fabrics are based in Brora.
