Feeling Seedy

Pondering Project Spectrum 4 and the first cardinal direction of North – colour, green… my stash investigations revealed this Trekking Hand Art in the colourway “Tundra.”

It is certainly green (and brown of course.) Tundra has distinctly Northern connotations for me so I think I am minded to whip something up with it, but I want to do something distinctly not-socky.

I like to use these creative impetus things to drive me into a personal challenge.

So, where does that leave us?

Well, I am thinking beads. LOADS of beeds, not just a tasteful few, hooked here and there, but a Great Big Threading Job.

In short, I am thinking this…#334H Heather Undulating Waves Scarf (Ravelry) The Undulating Waves Scarf (Nelkin Designs).

What do you think?

It requires 100gms of size 6 seed beads and I was going to ask the blog about sources, but I did stumble across http://www.totallybeads.co.uk earlier this evening, so now I think the question must be… “but what colour of beads????” I am considering the Bronze ones as I think the green are too  bright and the brown a little dull.

Really though, it’s such a nice design that I feel it deserves a better quality of yarn – something sumptuous. On the other hand, the weight of the beads will give the thing its drape, and the nylon content in the sock yarn will help it stand up to the wear and tear of pulling all those beads about.

What do you think? Please tell… I am undecided.

Other possibilities exist. I just can’t lay my hands on the photographs right now.

I definitely think the tundra colorway has a more northern connotation for me (and it’s beautiful!), but I’m not nearly experienced enough to know about how it’ll hold up to the weight of the beads, or the drape of the scarf, etc. Good luck!

That tundra is beautiful, and would look fabulous with that scarf. go for it. It’ll look beautiful.

@Katie, yes – but the beads… what colour beads? I was going for tasteful and toning but have been looking at photo inspiration of the tundra and am now thinking COLOUR! Why not represent the flowers of the Tundra too. Then again, this phase is also Winter – so maybe colour is out and perhaps the thing should be snowy white 🙂

Actually – I can really see that scarf in white, with a mix of seed beads in various shades of white, with clear, silver, and sparkle. It would be very… bridal! LOL
