Evenstar Mystery Shawl

Time to start a new post series for the Evenstar Mystery Shawl KAL!

Evenstar is the opener to a new series of designs, inspired by The Lord of The Rings trilogy,  by Susan Pandorf of Sunflower Designs. It is a circular shawl, of around 6 feet in diameter (I think) and has a beaded edging option. The shawl is designed for 2ply lace weight yarn and is anticipated to need 1,700 yards. The KAL is due to begin on February 12th, with clues released through February, March and April. The price of $8 includes a donation to MSF for Haiti. I suppose that if you signed up for this KAL with me, you’d be eligible for my shawl draw 🙂

The Ravelry KAL group is here – there should be a Yahoo KAL group too.

I’ve had my eye on Susan’s designs before (notably this one), but not previously had the courage to go all the intricate beaded way with her. This is also my first mystery KAL, and it’s Susan’s first mystery design too.

An initial “clue” to help with swatching for yarn choice has already been released. I have knitted 3 swatches so far, a fourth one today went completely up the spout for some reason and I need to re-knit it. There will be at least a fifth swatch. I’ll make another post once the swatches are blocked and photographed. Fundamentally – I am supposed to be knitting this from stash but, as we might have guessed, nothing in the stash seems to be of the correct weight. I know what yarn I want for this project, but most certainly cannot afford to buy it.
