Frustration

I know, much catching up to do. It shall have to wait – lots of busy going on, much stress.  Just stopping by to make a note on current frustration levels.

For some time I have been wanting to make the Colors [sic] Squared shawl (Ravelry). I even had the yarn stashed away and the pattern purchased. Just not got around to it yet…

Well, today I recommended the knit to somebody in a Ravelry forum. It occurred to me that recommending an untested pattern is a wee bit silly. So, of course, I cast on.

I was having fun. Truly, I was. Knitting squares is a new activity for me.

The Noro Kureyon Sock yarn is beautiful to look at but pretty ghastly to knit with. Thankfully the anticipation of the colour changes is sufficient to keep me motivated as the rough yarn scrapes my skin and the tightly spun singles kink and knot…

Stuck!
Stuck!

But that is not the root of the frustration. My first square is nearing completion, having gone quickly and well though the first four sections (it is basically log cabin, with lace).  I came to section five. I picked up stitches as directed -  32+1=33.

Pick up and k 32 sts – 8 sts out of the edge of section
4, 15 sts out of the bo row of section 1 and 9 sts out of the edge of section 2 – 33sts.

I knitted the first 2 rows as directed -  slip 1, knit 32 = 33 stitches.

R1: slp, k32

Row 3 says:

slp, k1, (k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k4)3 times, k1

I make that 36 stitches, don’t you?

(1+1 = 2) + ((2+2+1+2+4 = 11) x3 = 33) + (1)

Have emailed for assistance but (a) I hate being stuck when I was on a roll and (b) am greatly frustrated because I wanted to knock this off and report back on how easy it was, plus (c) I’ve obviously recommended a dud!

There won’t be much progress on this in the short term, even if I get my query resolved. I don’t seem to have the right size of circular needle to border the squares.

EDIT: The designer replied very quickly to say the written instructions are wrong, though the charts are correct (never thought to check!) Correct instructions have been supplied.

Hot, hot, hot

I really am a poor blogger these days, aren’t I? Sorry. The notion that I would keep a Nature Diary here soon fell by the wayside. A pity, that. Perhaps I will try again next year, The thing is, we packed ourselves up and wandered off in the van again and when we came back we were, for various reasons, at a low ebb. Energy has been lacking and especially the mental variety. I amContinue readingHot, hot, hot

B-B-B-B-B-Bovril

Having chosen to live in France, I try hard to live French. I really do not want to be that Brit – the one that moans how they can’t get such-and such in France or that some-other from the UK is better… Certainly, in my humble Brit opinion, there is so much here that is better than back in Blighty. Bread and butter for one two things, for instance. However, I do have a beef:Continue readingB-B-B-B-B-Bovril

It’s coming…

It’s coming…

We are getting ever closer to our new van. It is supposedly 13 days away. I say “supposedly” because we have been here before and I shall not quickly forget the horrors of last year when Mr Snail had to stay near Paris for several nights after travelling up on the train at 6am and… Continue reading It’s coming…

Well, that was unexpected…

Well, that was unexpected…

I was confiding that Heidi’s days with us are numbered, we had picked out our new van and that Mr Snail was taking her to Cognac to get a PX price… Things did not go to plan. Heidi was looking gorgeous, considering her age, and we both agreed that the fact that they had asked… Continue reading Well, that was unexpected…
