FO: Link Scarf

Jul 25th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 5 FO Friday, Finished Objects

Link is a lightweight lace scarf, knitted in a 2/28NM Cashmere/Silk/Merino blend from Colourmart. It is a quick knit and quite simple, but does have a couple of wrong side pattern instructions. The pattern is charted only.

FO: Annis in Wonderland

Jul 9th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 5 FO Friday, Finished Objects, Lace

I fell in love with Annis as soon as it was published as a Knitty surprise. I lost no time in casting it on, using some of the Colourmart 2/28NM scrap sets that I had in my stash.

I knocked this scarf up last year as a test for suitability for beginning lace knitters taking part in the All Shawl Together KAL. It made a useful stash buster

Very repetitive and mindless drop stitch pattern but worth the perseverance for a very wearable accessory. It offers so much warmth for so little weight

Flutter Scarf by Mimknits in Jaggerspun Zephyr.

This was a truly enjoyable knit. I loved everything about it. The yarn was a RAK gift and I was so pleased to be able to see and handle this yarn.

Most of the scarf was knit on ferry trips to and from Kirkwall. The pattern is a very simple 4 row repeat, easily memorised. The rhythm of the repeats, and the shortness of them, makes this one high on the “just one more” scale, and it is therefore very quickly finished. Just enough pattern to keep me alert, but simple enough to allow a social context. The ruffled ends required slightly more concentration, so I knit those at home.

Oh, b*ll*cks!

So, today is Shawl KAL cast-on day. I worked like fury last night to try to clear the Red Emperor and have one less WIP cluttering the place up. I had five 16 row repeats to do and I got almost all of the way there. I finished the last five rows this morning and [...]

There and (almost) Baktus

Sep 2nd, 2009 | By wool gatherer | Category: Knit

Don’t ask me where/when/how it went wrong. It shouldn’t have. But it did. I weighed it regularly. It became a religion almost. I even built in 2 grams leeway for safety. But I still ran out. I could reknit. Or I could unravel the start until it is the same width as the end. Or [...]

I think that I may be addicted to Anne Hanson’s “Little Nothing” scarves. Here’s the latest – Fernfrost. Knitted in heavy lace weight cashmere from Colourmart.

Cutting things fine

Jun 17th, 2009 | By wool gatherer | Category: Knit

I took the Reclamation scarf to spinning today as last week’s disastrous efforts have quite put me off spinning for a while. After that it was a quick romp to the end this afternoon. It is done!
