Well here we have a brand-new shiny week and we have it all to ourselves. Many plans were made for today, most of which were predicated upon the clement weather that we have failed to receive. Well, the rubbish is out, the dishwasher is on, the drying is in the tumbler, breakfast is in my tummy, all animals are fed and their other needs attended to. I have showered, had a mug of tea and a mug of coffee — I am fully caffeinated. I have unearthed a box of leftover risotto from the freezer and that will do for lunch. There is a long day stretching ahead of me and I am wondering how best to use it.
Things that will be done
- draft my second post for knit/crochet blog week.
- some tidying up.
- a little plying
- a Monday Muse post
- packing books into boxes for the sale at the end of May
Things that may be done
- Some knitting — there is a new project, but I am saving the details for Wednesday.
- If the weather clears up, I might take a little stroll with my camera and one or more of the dogs.
Yesterday
Yesterday Mr L set off on one of his marathon journeys to visit his office. He left on the evening ferry, expecting then to catch the bus from Kirkwall to Stromness — where he would tuck himself up in his berth on the Hamnavoe in readiness for the morning crossing to Scotland. When the ferry was under way, there was an announcement to the effect that the boat would be calling at Stronsay. Unsurprisingly, he missed his bus and had to get a taxi to Stromness — at a cost of over £25, which is more than he is allowed to claim for. That should prove to be an interesting battle when he puts his expenses in! While Mr L was battling with his travel plans, I was here drafting today’s big post and battling with my desk lamp, which was dimming and brightening, dimming and brightening… I had thought that it was the UPS dealing with glitches in the power supply and that the power had gone off when my lamp finally went out. I flipped the wall switch that the power was still on, it was the bulb that had gone. Later, when Mr L called from his bunk bed to say goodnight, the power actually did go off in the middle of our phone call. And thus, it begins… there is scope for much to go wrong in this week, and it probably will.
I spent the reminder of my evening in bed with my headlamp on, listening to the transistor radio, sipping Drambuie and reading a book – knitting lace was not really on the cards. All the same, not a poor way to spend a Sunday evening!
While I was writing this, Mr L called to see if the power had returned. He has safely made it across the Pentland Firth and caught his train and is now en route to Inverness, so that is a couple of hurdles safely crossed.
Impromptu giveaway
I found a new light bulb for my desk lamp, without which I cannot see to type. Here is the box that the bulb came in — they make excellent wee boxes for posting RAK’s and little swaps in.
So, how about an impromptu giveaway?
If you would like a small surprise from me, leave a comment here and I will randomly choose a recipient at the end of the week. I will post anywhere in the world.
Content will be mainly of a crafty nature. Not necessarily fibrous.
Please leave your URL, so that I can stalk you and assess what to incorporate into the box
And now it is time for me to roll my sleeves up and start tidying books away. I shall be back later with a Monday Muse post. I promise that it will be short, there has been more than enough to read today.
