FO: Amalia Shawl

Jul 25th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 5 FO Friday, Finished Objects

I fell for this one – hook, line and sinker, just as soon as I ever laid eyes on it. It even seduced me to the point that I sent away for specially selected yarn, rather than dipping into the stash and making do. Amalia is a flamboyent piece and definitely needed a bold splash of colour.

FO: Link Scarf

Jul 25th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 5 FO Friday, Finished Objects

Link is a lightweight lace scarf, knitted in a 2/28NM Cashmere/Silk/Merino blend from Colourmart. It is a quick knit and quite simple, but does have a couple of wrong side pattern instructions. The pattern is charted only.

WIPpie yi Ohhhhh

Jul 21st, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 3 WIP Wednesday

It’s WIP Wednesday, folks – and there is plenty of WIP-age in these here parts. The Colourmart Lovers competition closed yesterday at 5pm1, leaving me with three projects uncompleted; one of these I regard as formally in hibernation now, the remaining two are WIPs for completion in the shorter term. The Jubilee – Snowbird Cardigan [...]

FO: Down Among the Dunes

Jul 9th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 5 FO Friday, Finished Objects, Shawl

Quite some time ago, I made an over-sized Morning Surf scarf from multiple shades of a Colourmart cashmere scrap set of laceweight in blues and greens – A Tumult of Waves.

It was rapidly rehomed and I always promised myself a replacement. Down Among the Dunes takes its inspiration from the shore, rather than from the sea, and is made from the Cashmere/Silk/Merino blend yarn. Like its earlier counterpart, the yarn is held doubled and the shades changed one at a time.

FO: Annis in Wonderland

Jul 9th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 5 FO Friday, Finished Objects, Lace

I fell in love with Annis as soon as it was published as a Knitty surprise. I lost no time in casting it on, using some of the Colourmart 2/28NM scrap sets that I had in my stash.

I always cry at weddings

Jul 7th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 3 WIP Wednesday, Knit

WIP Wednesday! WIPpage this week has been entirely confined to this little piece of froth… It is the rectangular stole version of Kieran Foley’s Teardrop shawl. I am making it in a 2ply alpaca blend yarn – Machair, from The Yarn Yard. There is some very subtle beading going on there, with 11/0 beads in [...]

FO: Frozen Leaves

Jun 18th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 5 FO Friday, Finished Objects

FOs are falling off my needles faster than leaves drop from the trees in Autumn, or so it seems. The only trouble is that I do not have the time to document them properly right now.

This week’s cursory FO post is Frozen Leaves.

FO: Mere

Jun 11th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 5 FO Friday, Finished Objects

This is my first test knit for Designs by Romi. The shawl pattern is named Merope and is one of a forthcoming set of seven small shawls, all named after the Pleiades.

Merope is available now as a single purchase or as part of the yet-to-be-completed e-book series

Some progress is better than no progress…

May 5th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 3 WIP Wednesday

WIP Wednesday again. Already? Not possible!

Real life continues to intervene but I am slowly finding niches of time in which to play.

Progress report on Dido, ferry blankie, and some weaving…

Starting Out

Apr 26th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: Knit/Crochet Blog Week 2010

Day 1 of Knit/Crochet Blog Week. This post answers the prompt:

How and when did you begin knitting? was it a skill passed down through generations of your family, or something you learned from Knitting For Dummies? What or who made you pick up the needles/hook for the first time? Was it the celebrity knitting ‘trend’ or your great aunt Hilda?

…. at length!
