FO: Annis in Wonderland

Jul 9th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: 5 FO Friday, Finished Objects, Lace

I fell in love with Annis as soon as it was published as a Knitty surprise. I lost no time in casting it on, using some of the Colourmart 2/28NM scrap sets that I had in my stash.

Details and gallery.

Evenstar 2:1

Feb 27th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: KAL, Knit, Lace, Shawl

The second instalment of Evenstar was released at 6pm last night. There is one chart of 34 rounds, worked over 280 stitches – so there are 4 setup rows, with the stitches first being doubled to 288, then reduced to 280. I executed the setup rows, then set the work aside until today. Am currently [...]

Something for the Family Trunk

Feb 26th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: Knit, Lace, Shawl

The snow-inspired project was so exciting for me that I was really quite devastated that it would not work. I frogged it three times and then gave up. I was sad1 Something soft and intricate was definitely indicated after knitting with horrible aran yarn for a couple of days and I was not going to [...]

Evenstar 1:3

Feb 26th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: KAL, Knit, Lace, Shawl

I was true to my word and set about re-knitting my Evenstar yesterday.

I am now the proud owner of a far finer piece of knitting than attempt number 1 was ever going to be. It was worth the extra effort.

Clue two is to be released earlier this week, so that we European knitters can make a start today rather than having to wait until Saturday.

Evenstar 1:2

Feb 15th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: KAL, Knit, Lace, Shawl

I completed the first “clue” of the mystery shawl tonight. There is a photograph, here It has not gone smoothly. I used the Thom Christoph circular cast-on. The link given in the pattern to a photo tutorial defeated the pair of us. Mr L did find me a You Tube video that was more helpful. [...]

Evenstar 1:1

Feb 13th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: KAL, Lace, Shawl

This post might have been more amusingly entitled “two sticks good, four sticks bad” though I confess that now I am on to five sticks things are looking up, so five sticks are definitely better than four… but I much prefer two. I simply do not have the required manual dexterity – not for multiple [...]

Tangy

Feb 7th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: Lace, Woolgathering

Today has something of the flavour of Spring about it. The sun is out, there is little wind, and some actual warmth is detectable in the wan yellow rays. To be honest, thoughts have been turning to Spring for several days now – since I noticed the birds are more active and the ducks have [...]

Evenstar Swatch Results

Feb 1st, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: KAL, Lace, Shawl

I swatched four yarns for this project (click to see larger): 1 – A Colourmart 100% silk in 3/50NM weight ( over 1,800 yards per 100g), colour “Tinfoil” A very fine yarn and, although agreeable to blocking, it is not surprising that it came up short: 5½” wide by about 3½” high. I love the [...]

Swatches

Jan 31st, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: KAL, Lace, Shawl

Lousy photograph on a gloomy horrible day – these swatches are still wet so the colours do not show yet Clockwise from top right: Swatch #4, the Glisten (100% silk) – the heaviest yarn sample and the most readily blocked to size (6″ wide, 4″ high) Swatch #3, Hipknits laceweight silk – a totally different [...]

Glisten, do you wanna know a secret?

Jan 29th, 2010 | By wool gatherer | Category: KAL, Lace, Shawl

I have been swatching for the Evenstar mstery shawl and concluding that although I need to knit from stash, there’s nothing there that is really substantial enough to hold 3,000 beads. Even though I knew I couldn’t buy any yarn, I went Googling for laceweight silk. I found an indie dyer that I hadn’t come [...]
