A wander through my stash
Those “holes” in my Ravelry stash page have been bugging me so, while I had my light tent out, I’ve been doing a little catching up. I love the way that a few small changes make such a huge difference to my photographs.

There are still problems with colour reproduction. I have it pretty much nailed in-camera, and the images look great in Photoshop… until I save them as jpegs, then the colour differs greatly from the original RAW image. I have a great deal to learn yet regarding PC colour management. This exercise may inspire me to knuckle down to learning.
Now, really, I must knit with some of this stuff – and soon!

Interesting to read about colour issues. Firstly, you are doing the right thing by capturing your pictures in RAW. If your main output is to the web, I would recommend that you set the colour settings in PS to Europe Web/Internet by going to Edit>Colour Settings and make your selection from the drop down settings menu in the colour settings panel. Basicall you want the RGB working space to be set to sRGB IEC6 1966-2.1 Gamma should be set to 2.2 on a PC and 1.8 on a MAC. Colour management is a fairly complex topic and my suggestion should get you fairly close if your monitor is not too badly out.

I haven’t yet got around to posting on my own blog about colour issues yet, but I can tell you one thing; by shooting in RAW you can easily correct colour. In fact you don’t need to worry about what the camera is set to, because we can always change it on the computer. Shooting in jpeg, you cant.

Thank you very much, John – I shall give that a try. My camera (Canon Rebel aka 300D) is presently set to Adobe RGB – I thought if I was processing in PS that would be best?
