In a Spin

Jul 31st, 2009 | By wool gatherer | Category: Woolgathering

The Spinning Ladies of Sanday saw plenty of success today. There is much to report and there will be photographs as time permits. For now, feast your eyes on some of the ribbons acquired by SpinningGill’s pony, Shanty. You can’t beat a good Show, and today’s was very good indeed- with totally uncharacteristic Sanday Show [...]

Blog silence

Jul 31st, 2009 | By wool gatherer | Category: Woolgathering

There must be much to blog about but I must confess, dear reader, that it is all too much effort right now. Too much effort both physically (input is laborious using the pen that I am deploying to help ease my RSI) and mentally (perhaps the perceived tiredness has something to do  with mourning Lulu [...]

Still here

Jul 20th, 2009 | By wool gatherer | Category: Woolgathering

Mr L made his way home safely and I collected him from the ferry at breakfast time on Saturday. Needless to say – we had a quiet weekend, though not so idle as we may have expected. Saturday was a day of cuddles, relaxing baths, and welcome home food, And shopping, let’s not forget shopping. [...]

… of mice and men

Jul 17th, 2009 | By wool gatherer | Category: Woolgathering

Plans for this week have gone slightly agley, as you might expect; there’s never as much week as one expects, somehow.  So, not much to report and very little time to do it in. (though I am told that there will be other times, longer ones, in my near future when I shall be free [...]

Scruffy Beggar

Jul 13th, 2009 | By wool gatherer | Category: Suppliers

You may call me a dirty pig if you wish but… I just washed my Clapotis for the first time (- I didn’t block it after knitting.)  I only mention this because I am totally gobsmacked at the amount of dye that washed out of it. The yarn was a hand-dyed Aran weight silk. I [...]

Blossom End Rot

Jul 13th, 2009 | By wool gatherer | Category: Woolgathering

The Blossom sock is in abeyance. I emailed the designer but still await a response. Close now to the point where I shall rip it out again and re-knit using a different technique. Needless to say , I’ve lost all heart on the Show front where this project is concerned.  Time is short too. We’ve [...]

Spinning update

Jul 6th, 2009 | By wool gatherer | Category: Spin

I seem to have my spinning mojo back. Hurrah! As previously mentioned, I am currently spinning against the clock in the hope of turning out at least 2 pairs of skeins for the Show. My first intended pair is from prepared tops and I am using the Yarn Yard Merino and Silk blend in shades [...]

Blossom Part 3: The Pit of Despair

Jul 6th, 2009 | By wool gatherer | Category: Knit

O.k. I re-knit the heel. It wasn’t looking any better. Halfway through I stopped to think, and I tied reversing the logic of the knit side which is working, and applying that to the purl side, which is not. What I have now is a heel where the gaps are closed, but which is a [...]
