Eek!

Here’s where I was up to before going shopping tonight

I’m going to be short of yarn.
Commentary later.
Right now, I have to rake grass mowings. Half an acre of them.
I’d rather be knitting.
Or filling in my Ravelry details…

Clapotis progress

Jul 20th, 2007 | By woolgatherer | Category: Demiarchive

We watched 2 episodes of Twin Peaks on the lappie last night. I knitted until the light faded. So I got this far:

And I am now on the straight, if not the narrow. I’m really wishing that my needles were a few centimetres longer, as it’s a bit of a squeeze the way that things [...]

Remember the Knox?

Here’s a Photoshop image that I created a couple of years ago. It might give an idea of why the Knox appealed to me…
I named this image “The Summer of ‘68″ because it reminded me of a mini skirt I had then. It was a bright orange, with striped checks of hot pink [...]

Toys

In case anyone hasn’t seen one and is interested - this is a drum carder. It’s not mine. I’m just giving it houseroom for a little while.

Treacle was sat on that tray last night. We pondered what might happen if Teddy decided to lean on the handle and card Treacle’s tail…

It was never going to be easy, was it?

RAKs

Random Acts of Kindness are just the nicest thing… and fibre folk seem to  be the most generous of people. In today’s mail:

Thank you. You know who you are.
I can’t wait to have a go! So I am going to take the Shetland/Manx/Corriedale off Constance for tonight and have a play with this merino roving [...]

Constance

Jul 16th, 2007 | By woolgatherer | Category: Demiarchive

Here she is, in all her glory
Danish oil (2 coats) and wax (2 coats) have made a big difference to the wheel, and nicely brought out the grain.
I did some spinning last evening. I’m not sure I’m really registering the way that the Scots tension works, so I need to experiment a bit. I broke lots [...]

Decisions

Jul 16th, 2007 | By woolgatherer | Category: Demiarchive

My silk aran turned up! Not the first parcel, but the replacement sent last week (it took its time, all the same) Two fat skeins of Knox. Many, many, thanks to Kerrie at Hipknits for the speedy replacement of the missing goods.
Also in today’s mail, my copy of Interweave Knits Felt special edition magazine
Not forgetting that I have [...]

Polished off

Jul 15th, 2007 | By woolgatherer | Category: Demiarchive

Constance has had two coats of Danish oil now, and two thin coats of a lovely soft wax (thank you, Spinning Gill) and she’s ready to reassemble - once I find out where that man of mine put the box of bits for safekeeping (he’s out mowing the grounds just now.) I must say, she is [...]

Still oiling

Jul 14th, 2007 | By woolgatherer | Category: Demiarchive

I suffered a bit last night and was spluttering and wheezing - so I get to sit here and type this, while my beloved puts a second coat of Danish on my wheel. I shall wax it when the oil has dried - which may be an age in this damp weather.
I woke this morning knowing [...]
